Youth Center Activities
We are in the process of building the youth center and are about half way finished! (See "Building Project" for more information) Even though the center is still being built, that hasn't stopped us from having activities at the youth center. We have had church there, shown movies, and hosted "On Eagles Wings" a ministry of Ron Hutchraft. We have also had some concerts and games at the center. When mission groups are in town, we have sponsored community clean-ups and in March 2010 hosted several vacation bible schools.
During the summer of 2009, the youth center hosted "On Eagles Wings". For three nights,
Native Youth from Alaska, Canada, and the Lower 48 hosted games, eating contests, skate competitions, BMX competitions, and gave testimonies. Nothing is more powerful than hearing a Native youth telling other Native youths that God loves them and has a purpose for their lives.
Day One: July 17,2009 saw several hundred people attend the "On Eagles Wing" event. The group had a professional skater from Colorado teaching tricks and MC'ing a skate competition among the local skaters. There were events for all ages ranging from pie eating contests to jump roping and even a limbo stick line! The event was a huge success and it seemed that all in attendance enjoyed themselves. As the evening progressed, three testimonies were shared. While the skate tricks were cool, the most amazing thing of the night was the attention the kids and teen in the audience gave the speakers. You could have heard a pin drop.
Day Two: July 18, 2009, this night brought a crowd out again. This time there was also a BMX bike competition. Local BMX'ers came out and showed off their talents to the crowd, including one who pulled off a complete back flip! Once again there were many games, ones any age could enjoy. The "On Eagles Wings" youth staff once again shared there life stories and how Christ changed their lives. Just like the previous night, the crowd listened to each speaker intently.
Day Three: July 19, 2009. This was the final night. It started out with a downpour of rain. The "On Eagles Wings" group huddled together to pray and asked God to keep the skies clear over the youth center and skate park. As 7:00 PM approached, the sky was clear straight above the skate park, but all around the lightening flashed and thunder rolled. Rain danced across the horizon, but the skate park remained dry and the crowds came out again. At the end of this evening, an "On Eagles Wings" student staff member made an appeal for those who wanted to accept Christ as their Savour to come forward. It started with one teen on a BMX bike peddling to the front, followed by skaters, Goths, kids, adults, and others. Several dozen came forward. The night ended with staff praying with those who came forward. It was an amazing night that started with the rain pouring and ending with the Holy Spirit pouring!
Did You Know? For seventeen-year, On Eagles Wings has been reaching Native youth for Jesus Christ with peer to peer evangelism that goes to the heart of lost Native youth. With sports, Christian music, and personal stories of hope, many Native young people on reservations and reservations throughout North America are given the opportunity to make personal decisions for Jesus Christ.
